Undergarments worn under a yukata

Are you using a petticoat instead of a camisole or T-shirt?

While it's not absolutely impossible, we still recommend wearing underwear specifically made for kimono. They are made with kimono in mind, and are designed to make you look beautiful in a yukata.

There are different types of Japanese underwear, so if possible, choose underwear specifically for yukata.Undergarments and undershirts for kimonos other than yukata can be too hot to wear in the summer, or can be a hassle to put on.

Yukata underwear is made of thin fabric that is soft to the touch and has sweat-absorbing properties, so it's comfortable to wear underneath the yukata. There are separate top and bottom types, and slip types, but slips combine undergarments and hem guards into one piece, so they serve two purposes. They're not see-through, and you can wear them with peace of mind knowing that your underwear won't show.

When wearing a yukata, you should wear underwear specifically designed for Japanese clothing.

Do I need a Japanese-style bra?

When wearing Western clothing, many people wear underwire bras to accentuate their body lines. However, when wearing a yukata, it is considered more beautiful to have a cylindrical figure, so if you are going to wear a bra, choose a traditional Japanese bra.

If you have a large bust, your bust shape will be clearly visible when you wear a yukata without any support. I mentioned that yukata looks more beautiful when worn with a slightly cylindrical shape, but you should also be careful to wear it with a slightly pigeon chest rather than one that clearly shows your bust line.

If you have a small bust, there is no need to force yourself to make it look bigger, but if you have a larger bust, we recommend a Japanese-style bra.

Wearing a bra with wires because you're worried about having a large bust will make you look older. The obi belt for a yukata is tied just below the chest, so if your bust is large, it will rest on the belt, making it look saggy. It's best to remember that it's best to avoid emphasizing your fullness and keep it to a minimum to look beautiful.

Japanese bras are not meant to lift and make the bust look bigger, but to support the bust and reduce bulk, making the garment look beautiful. They don't have cups, but they provide great support and make the bust look slimmer. The larger your bust, the more recommended a Japanese bra is.
