We also paid close attention to the back. The backs of Kyoto Tower, Kinkaku-ji Temple, the Five-Storied Pagoda, and maiko enjoying hanami (flower viewing) are also intricately sculpted.
Pedestal Front
The front of the pedestal is sculpted with motifs of spots that evoke Kyoto's seasons, such as Kinkaku-ji Temple in winter covered in snow and Kiyomizu-dera Temple surrounded by autumn leaves.
Pedestal Back
Fushimi Momoyama Castle with its beautiful spring cherry blossoms, Daimonji-yaki, and the fresh greenery of early summer with Fushimi Inari Taisha were sculpted.
Going around the pedestal, you can fully experience the beautiful scenery of Kyoto in all four seasons.
The 4.5cm diameter dome and 2.2cm high pedestal feature intricate carvings and delicate coloring based on popular Kyoto spots.
From carving to coloring, all processes are carefully finished by artisans one by one by hand, expressing a warm, delicate, and beautiful Kyoto landscape that cannot be achieved by machines.
